10 goals and no red cards should get us a play off spot, if we maintain our excellent defensive record. But the recent trend says we will not score 10 and will not avoid a red card. I certainly don't see us hitting 10 with the Beano/Tubbs partnership, but i feel that will be the preferred strike partnership that the manager will use over the next 5 games, so it's really hard to see where the 10 goals will come from, unless Jai & Drury hit a purple patch & hit 8 to Beano's 2. 5 x 2-0 victories would be immense and would have me believing again, that's for sure, Barnsey. If we really did achieve that, we would certainly be the form team going into the PO's..

I see that useless Vardy who hasn't scored for 6 games before today finally got a couple. Perhaps there's hope for Constable and Tubbs yet.

I just don't know how you can say that of Vardy, he scored for England the other week, Leicester riding high at the top of the league and look like taking the title this year. They as a team have done remarkable this year, so give our guys a break, think positive and believe.

Yep, sorry Tyreman I was just making a point. Jamie Vardy is of course an outstanding player and a spell without him finding the net was always coming to an end.
And I agree entirely with your comment- "They as a team have done remarkable this year, so give our guys a break, think positive and believe".

Really good point yesterday. Would have taken a draw all day long, with 10 men for half the game it is very impressive.
Our defensive record is becoming seriously impressive.
The onus is on us on Tuesday as we need to win. I'm optimistic we can do.
Would certainly take the wager that we will score at least 6 goals in the next 5 games.

Would certainly take the wager that we will score at least 6 goals in the next 5 games. Sounds a speculative punt to me. We scored 7 in the same reverse fixtures We are more defensive now than we were in those reverse fixtures We have scored 4 in our last 5 games It's about picking up points now and keeping it tight to grind out a result. Which part would 'certainly' make you take that bet, other than gut feeling, which isn't a certainty ?

The massive difference with Vardy and Leicester, versus Beano & Eastleigh, is that whilst Vardy wasn't scoring, Leicester still won every game. Whilst as Beano has stopped scoring, we have done ok, but have lost 1 and drawn 3, where just one goal from him would have resulted in turning those draws into wins. I haven't double checked, but the last goal i remember Beano scoring was at FGR, which was 10 games ago. A very well taken goal it was, and i would say a typical Beano goal and brought out the element of his game that he is very good at. All strikers, no matter what the level, will go through a bad patch where they dont score, but the difference is, the good ones continue contributing and assisting others to score whilst the team keep winning. What we have in Beano, is a man out of form, who is the wrong fit in the jigsaw and other than picking up yellow cards and annoying referees, he doesn't give us what we need to turn draws into wins. It's not all down to him of course, but the team has only scored 8 goals in those 10 games since Beano last scored, and only 1 of those goals was scored by a striker and that was a Tubbs penalty!...so our strike force are completely out of form & the lack of striker goals hasn't helped us take advantage of the other teams above us slipping up.
As i have said a few times, Beano is decent enough for this level in the right team, but he doesn't suit what we want to do and achieve as a team (imo) and my opinion is being proved very right on this topic this season. I think if he plays in all 5 remaining games, he might get 2 goals, but that's not going to be enough and as a striker, goals are your bread and butter. That scoring ratio will not win us the league in any year, never mind this year! I've been told he has already signed for next season. To be frank, i just don't get that, what are the manager and BoD seeing in a 14 goal striker, who is very difficult to partner with anyone upfront & is very limited as to the style of football you can play with him as the main man? Do they really believe he is going to get 25+ next season, he hasn't scored 20 in any of his last 6 seasons. To win this league you need at least a 20+ goal striker and usually 25-30. Cheltenham already have 2 strikers with 20+ this season (26 & 21 respectively) and that is why they have won the league.
I'll get the usual attacks for these comments, but ask yourself before you do that, do you really think Beano is the best we can attract for next season and do you think he will score enough goals to win us the title, because lets face it, that is the aim isn't it?...

I'm with you 100% Paul about Constable. I've said in a couple of posts recently that if he has signed for next season then forget the title, it won't happen as he is not the striker we need. He seldom makes a run, he is not on a wavelength with either Reason or Drury for that, he rarely wins a header, is not a target man, and just runs into channels. There was a mention about Holman going from Woking to Cheltenham and how his goals and general play has taken them to the brink of the title.....why did't we go for him? To be honest with Constable in our team even Holman would struggle because our shape is fitted to Constable, it does'nt work and never will, so if you want a title challenge next season he should be moved on. As Paul states his scoring record these last six seasons is very poor anyway.

With you on the Constable dilemma Sattsy and SOE. Beano has done well for us in our first couple of seasons at this level, however, unless we have a partner for next season that can play with him he will not score the requisite amount of goals that is required for a serious title challenge. As Sattsy pointed out, Cheltenham have won the league because they score goals and the strikers are putting in a 20+ return. Our GD this season for a team challenging for a PO spot shows where we have been lacking and unless CT and the BoD have a partner lined up for Beano that works I cant see next season being any different. Tubbs has the capability but we have showed we cant utilise him properly and Yemi despite being a 100% worker will not get you 20+ goals in a season.

Lets be fair on Beano here, as Ive said before, this shouldnt be taken as criticism of Beano directly (as people have also stated), more of how he does not fit Todds style. If we play the same style next year as we are now then you could get in Messi, it wont make a difference. The team as a whole is just not connected to the front line. We pretty much play a game where each line/banks are responsible for their own phase of play. We get small transitions from midfielders defending and from full backs into midfield but it is the attackers who are the most isolated. They spend their entire time with backs to goal or chasing balls into channels.
If Constable was playing for Cheltenham he would have scored 20+ also this season.
For me, although we point out a player is playing poorly, it is the tactics applied that is strangling many of them.
Put this another way, not withstanding personal and financial, if I were Beano, I would not want to be here myself next year. He must be equally frustrated as we are.

Constable left Oxford before Appleton took over so not sure on the point here. Waddock, is Waddock, enough said on that point. Cheltenham score lot of their goals from inside the box and set pieces across the box. This is Constables strengths. He is a 6 yard player.

Most Conference sides would be delighted to sign JC, many football league clubs would too. We have not been giving him the service. He is a really good player at this level and I hope he rams a few peoples words down their throat before the seasons end.

SS....it's not who is manager, it's how he plays. Michaelefc....If any club offered even £5k I'd take it..he simply does not fit us....Doswell can have him but even he is not that daft.
