I think this is a great thread because reading about other fans expirences reminds me why I started watching football. My first game was at fratton park in 1994, pompey v Wolves. Wolves won 2-1 after Gerry Creany had put pompey in front. I was only 14 but enjoyed the whole match day expiirence and the smell of hot bovril. For me going to football isnt just about the result, its an escape from reality for a few hours and even though every game isnt a classic I still get the same buzz coming away from the ground sometimes.

My first ever game was at Fratton Park as an 8 year-old watching Pompey lose 2-0 at home to Liverpool for whom John Barnes (remember him?) scored twice. Pompey were relegated that season and in that same year December 1988 (Boxing Day I believe) I saw the mighty Posh draw 1-1 with Chesterfield in division 4 with a brilliant overhead kick from Steve Osborn. As for my first Eastleigh game, it was the year they won the Wessex league when I saw the Spitfires triumph 6-1 at Privett Park against their nearest rivals Gosport Borough as I watched my best mate Graham Lindsey make his debut for Gosport.

My first Eastleigh game was on the 15th July 2014 the pre-season friendly v Bournemouth. I bought my season ticket 2 days later at the Swindon game. I've been hooked ever since.
My first ever game would have been watching Saints at the Dell in the 90's. Preferred the Dell to St Mary's, better atmosphere.

I didn't know much about football until England won the World Cup in 1966, and at the tender age of 13 that encouraged me to go & watch the nearest club of any status that I was aware of, Welton Rovers in the Western League. Then on 7th Jan 1967, a friend asked if I'd like to go & see Bristol City play Wolves in Div 2. 17000 crowd, 1-0 win to City & I was hooked. Great memories of promotion to Div 1 in April 1976 following a 1-0 win over Pompey, then winning 1-0 at Arsenal on the first game of the following season. Never a season ticket holder or regular away traveller, I was still, in my mind an avid fan. I moved to Guernsey** from Somerset in 1982 & visits to Ashton Gate became fewer & farther between. Coming to North Baddesley in 1987 & with a young family meant travelling to games in Bristol was still difficult but I managed 4 or 5 a season, with 2 or 3 at the Dell if I could get a ticket, but I was never that keen on them. Also went to Bournemouth from time to time, which I enjoyed more.
Then, August 2006 I learned that Eastleigh, of whom I was aware via the Echo, were signing Jason Dodd & Francis Benali, so I thought I'd go & have a look. Can't remember the opponents or the score, but I realised I could get back to supporting a club for a fraction of the cost & time of travelling up to Bristol, so slowly at first, my love affair with Eastleigh FC started. And I have to say everything about the club gets better & better as we move on.
**While on Guernsey I went to occasional games & towards the end of my time saw a certain Matthew Le Tissier play for Vale Rec a couple of times. Don't recall being impressed at the time.

My first Eastleigh match would've been 1999/2000 season. Can't remember which game though? The following season I became Programme Editor. My first ever game would've been Winchester City at the old Airlie Road ground in late 60's. My first ever Professional game was Saints v Stoke at the Dell in1969. (finished 0-0) My first ever away game was Arsenal v Saints at Highbury Boxing Day 1970 (also finished 0-0 - see video below) www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XarZj2eehc

They were in the Wessex league then. Usually coming about 8th-10th, with an average crowd of around 90.

Go back another 15 years when the newly named Eastleigh were Hampshire League, gates were as low as 23 on a Saturday !!! Top gate would be for the annual visit of Southampton "A" which attracted crowds of up to 150.
