Better watch out for this trick when we play Guiseley I know it deprived Braintree of two points which is good for us, but to do it in this way.....? www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCrUEqThTh0

You won't convince me that the Guiseley Manager knew his team had to let Braintree walk the ball from kick-off to restore their lead. It happened 3 times last season, once if memory serves me right at Gosport or Havant, and they let the other side walk it in. So he knew what to do, it made headlines in The Non League Paper which no doubt he gets weekly. Nothing to be proud of, he embarrassed his team and his club, just imagine if Braintree miss the PO by a single point, where's the justice in that? Or worse that maybe Guiseley stay up by a point. It tarnishes the whole league and could affect a number of teams at the end because they cheated and did not respect sporting justice being served. The player wasn't trying to score and was a fluke, for their Manager to say it was the goalie's fault is just an excuse. Why can't The FA order this game to be replayed?

Refs so thick that they didn't rule it out for clear foul throw. Other than that, bloke kicks the ball fairly well, keeper well off his line and doesn't make an attempt to save it for some reason, player who kicks the ball doesn't celebrate and walks off. Don't think anyone in the wrong apart from keeper who was very lazy. Wouldn't want my manager letting the other team score! Let's not forget Braintree used to have George Borg among their ranks!

Keeper was at the edge of his area expecting the pass back from the Guiseley player. Not sure whether the shot was intentional, but it was pretty hard to stop with the keeper so far out.
Agree that the ref could have given a foul throw. When he didn't, all he could do was to allow the goal.
Guiseley should have allowed a walk-in, no doubt. Hopefully it won't affect playoffs/relegation places, but as it stands it might.
Perhaps they will scrap this 'unwritten rule' one day and allow the ref to decide when play stops (for a head/serious injury only) and not leave it up to the players, who should play on unless they hear the whistle.

Yes it is getting silly on the 'fair play' front , Liverpool kicked the ball out for Aguero yesterday when he hadn't even been injured.
Watched AC Milan Saturday never seen anything like it, player goes down , ball kicked off, player up without treatment, worst game I've ever been to. No wonder nobody goes to the stadium to watch the match in Italy.

The FA can't order the game to be replayed as no rules were broken.
What was broken was the spirit of the game and I have sympathy with Braintree. I think most teams would have allowed them a "walk-in" goal for restore the score line to a 1 goal lead.
I reckon that's what Eastleigh/Cheltenham would do should the same happen tomorrow night. It would create a lot of bad feeling it not.
Would it happen in the last minute on the final day if we needed a result to make the playoffs?
I am not so sure!
Putting my honest hat on I don't know if I'd want it too either!

You answered your own question Rendel....."What was broken was the spirit of the game" so whether we were in the last minute on the final day you've said we mustn't break the spirit of the game. I for one would be extremely proud if we allowed a walk in goal in the last minute that robbed us of a PO spot because it would be the right thing to do. Guiseley may yet get a massive backlash if that result alters things at the seasons end. As for The FA ordering a rematch I remember Arsenal having to replay a cup tie because the referee awarded a goal that should not have counted, so these things can be done even when no rules were broken. Perhaps Braintree have mentioned this and maybe The FA have it under review. Good reaction from Danny Cowley too afterwards in the interview keeping his cool.

Precedent has therefore been set then and Braintree should appeal. How the Guiseley Manager can say its a grey area is tosh and he knows it. This incident may impact on Halifax, Altrincham, Borehamwood, Barrow, Southport and Chester in the relegation area, and Braintree could lose out to Wrexham, Gateshead, Tranmere, Dover, Lincoln and ourselves...that's half of the league teams caught up in this. We've all had goals unfairly awarded, offside, penalties, ball going out of play but missed, ect ect, its accepted as part of the season, but this issue is entirely different and The FA can do something about it. What would happen if those 12 clubs supported Braintree in asking for a rematch in the spirit of the competition. What happens for example if Guiseley stay up by a point from say Barrow, can they sue Guiseley for financial loss of being relegated? This is potentially a can of worms waiting to be opened surely? What I would do is say to Guiseley, suppose it was the other way round, how would you feel? Would you have accepted a walk in goal to restore parity in the scoreline? If they say yes then its a no brainer is it...do the right thing, phone The FA and offer a rematch for the good of the game.

No one really knew how to proceed after Kanu had kicked it back to the keeper and, ultimately scored but as dad said great sportsmanship from Arsene Wenger. Sad to see a lot of banners from other blades fans labelling Kanu a cheat and worse in the replay but we lost anyway!
