Having been at the game with my 3 kids I couldn't work out what the red was for.
We then all watched the highlights on BT Sport and there is no denying Strevens spat in the direction of Parkin. Whether the ref saw it or not, this is inexcusable and a very bad example for young spitfires who idolise these players.
I'm sure Strevens is very sorry and ashamed of his actions. Onto the next one..... as they

So a 7 game ban plus he is 1 booking away from 10 bookings which will result in a further 2 game ban. You can be pretty sure he will get that 1 more booking which will mean he will be unavailable for 9 of our last 14 league games - 2/3 of the remaining games!! Our discipline record this season has been poor. Not a great example to lead for the captain/vice captain of the club. Todd is going to have to prepare for the rest of the season with him not in his plans cause when he does return at Easter he is not going to be 'match fit'. Surely with this news we are going to have sign a central midfield on loan?

SD has stated if Ben picks up another yellow for 10th booking he will receive a 4 game ban, meaning 11 of our last 14.

I find myself doubting if we will see him again this season.

An observation -
It's funny how you never get parents of kids complaining about what their kids see and hear during Rugby games, where players will have a full on punch up and the referee will stand aside and let them punch it out, before sending them to a 10 minute sin bin. That seems to be deemed ok by probably 99% of fans in attendance, the remaining 1% have probably never watched a Rugby match before, so are probably quite shocked at what they have just witnessed. But if a footballer does anything remotely close to that, they are vilified as bad examples and that they should be ashamed of themselves behaving like that in front of kids. Its the same in Ice Hockey, where the fans only really go to see full on punch ups...Its accepted as being part of the game.
To my knowledge, football has never, and will never, be played under a "U" certificate. Kids will see & hear things that are more of an "18" certificate in pretty much every match. I don't think many adults will take their kids to an 18 certificate film, but they bring them to football, knowing they will hear a few choice words or see some overly aggressive & competitive sportsmen go at each other physically. Are these parents really expecting footballers to be angels & perfect role models? The day footballers become Angels, we will have lost a once great sport.
My observation doesn't condone bad behavior or bad language, but i come to football games accepting that i might see or hear that and as someone who started going to football with my dad from the age of about 8, i can remember quite like seeing a spicy game, as it made me feel more adult being "allowed" to come along..... I don't think we should vilify players who in the heat of the moment, over step the line. They are dealt with by the referee and by their respective clubs. I don't get all this "role model" rubbish. They are doing a job and have a bad moment, as we all do.
I for one, hope we see Strevs back in an Eastleigh shirt. He has without doubt been one of, if not our best & most consistent player, over the last 3 seasons.

The guy had a moment of madness and acted a total thoughtless prat in the last seconds of a match. He spat in the direction of another player, we don't want to see that. The reason he's getting a second ban when he picks up another booking is because he keeps getting booked.
The ban is long for a reason, to stop players doing exactly that, they all know it.
However, 7 games, the spit hit the floor and was more a threat than an 'act' - I feel for the fella.

Couldn't have put it better myself Paul. The main role model for a child should be their parents. Footballers are not role models, they are paid to play football. In as far as they get suspended so they can't play football, they are letting themselves, the club and the fans down. That said a 7 game ban for spitting in the direction of a player sounds very very harsh to me.

Totally agree with what Paul is saying there. Mind you it would be nice if we could make our fan support an example - it has been for years but we've seen some silly behaviour here and there this season.
Back to Strevs.
I would be very tempted to hope he might be able to get out there and do some networking and scouting to find us a couple to fill the gap he's left.

Unfortunately that ban is warranted for spitting plus the level of yellow cards he has already had nice to know club have dealt with this internally.
A blow losing Strevs from the midfield but a chance for others to step up and fill the void.
Sattsy - regarding your rugby comment I am in complete agreement with you. However the language that may get used on the pitch you don't tend to hear as much as you do at a non league game. It has been said Eastleigh are a family club and I did bring my kids to a few games however with the much bigger crowds, language on the pitch and behaviour of some morons I have not brought them since as my 2 are quite young.
The players should lead by example on the pitch & hopefully the so called fans currently behaving in a way that does not show Eastleigh in a great light will hopefully Buck their ideas up or go somewhere else

In terms of our own fans, i think when you increase your fanbase from 500 to almost 2000 in the space if 2 seasons, you are going to get a few undesirables, or a few that dont really know how to behave at a football match. I've seen a few things of late, which i dont really see as bad or threatening behaviour, i see them more as damn right embarrassing....But you cant expect everyone to be on best behaviour, or behave like saints at football all the time. Football is an emotionally charged sport and fans are even more emotional than players! It's up to us to police our own, and to bring them in line. TBH, I've been a fan who has stepped out of line a few times at Eastleigh, which i usually later regret. although not every time. It's not because i want to cause trouble, it's just because i get caught up in the emotion of it all. Others will no doubt find themselves in similar situations to that. We just need to point them in the right direction and let them know its not acceptable, although its a brave man who tries to calm me down when i've lost it...lol.
