Not many of us want to see AFC enter our name anywhere... I would personally hate to see that! Just happy to have a team to support again, if we get placed in the Wessex Premier, we'll take it and play in it happily. Just happy to have a team and start with a clean slate, with no debts, and hopefully, still be playing at the Ray Mac. If us Eastleigh fans can help in anyway let me know Very kind of you... I know Steve Claridge is hoping to get some friendlies once things are up and running to get things started for next season. Maybe there might be one between the new Salisbury and Eastleigh...

All been quiet for a while, but this is on the Echo website this morning. www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/11804132.Salisbury_MP_steps_in_to_help_phoenix_club/Now, let's think about it. You have xxxacres of land & buildings doing nothing at the moment, next to a large housing development, what would be the best way of making money from it? Rent it out to a ?Wessex League? football club, or obtain planning permission to build houses on it? I know what I would do! It just depends on what the Trust Deed, which the Trustees of the RayMac have to follow, says. I would have thought the Phoenix club would be best off ground-sharing with Bemerton Heath or Laverstoke & Ford in the early days.

Martin makes some good points.
Reports in the NLP and elsewhere suggest that the current trustees of the ground HAVE offered the ground to the new consortium but at a full market rent and the new owners of the "Club with No Name" are surprised by this. Given the recent history I would have thought that they couldn't have expected anything less.
Threat of legal action over the Trustees actions reported elsewhere are hardly a good start to this venture. Not likely to have improved their chance of a ground-share either IMHO.

This sentence made me laugh - “I have been in touch with the new owners and I am very encouraged by their commitment not to repeat the mistakes of the past,” Mr Glen said. They are hardly going to say " yes, we are going to screw things up just like the previous 2 regimes did" are they!

Done. Everyone needs football in the community and a local rivalry. Not that Salisbury are our rivals anymore, past that stage in our history. You will have to stick with Bath City for rivals.

Done!
Bath City for rivals? That's being a bit optimistic Charlie. When they start playing again I think Bemerton Heath Harlequins will be more the level of rivalry they should be at.

I was thinking more for the future and their max conference level standard. Is Bath the closest to them in the top two tiers of non league ? I guess their actual rivals would be Laverstock & Ford ?

Are they gonna play at the Ramac For 15-16? Looks doubtful.
Might end up ground sharing at Bemerton.
Wessex div 1?!

A new lease agreed in principle, just the finer details to be agreed. But we have actually been allowed back in.

They will end up in Wessex Prem, purely because they will be deemed as "too big" for Wessex 1, where teams get no more than 20 fans at each game. Money will talk them into the Wessex Prem at the very least....Although i suspect even at that level, their numbers might be decent for home games to start with and then fans will get fed up watching that standard of football, and will stay away until they are higher up the pyramid. I dont see them having 100+ traveling to away games at the likes of Portchester, or Fareham.

You are probably right in that they will start at the wessex prem.
I don't think its right, should be wessex league 1 which only has about 15 clubs in it so plenty of room, if I was one of the wessex 1 clubs who wanted to go up and have a space in the wessex prem I wouldn't be too impressed with Salisbury being given a space and my own club not.
As for crowds, think they will do allright, specially at they are likely to have a fairly successfull few years competing at the top of leagues.
Obviously any wages they are being, specially if they are paying big wages (which could well be the case in 2/3 years) are an insult to the several hundred thousand pounds creditors have NOT been paid as a result of their recent past.
I'd like to see them banned from competing in the conference structure for 10 years and a very low wage cap strictly enforced.
I realise neither will happen & the latter would be difficult to enforce anyway

Well, whilst the the supporters will be much the same, it is a new team, no debts from the get go. Steve Claridge will be the manager, and I strongly expect a very young squad of players who have been part of his academy, and this will mean a fairly cheap, but very fit squad, I can tell you that after watching him take an hour and a half training session. He won't be getting any money from this club. And he has also come out and said that owners of clubs need to learn when to say no. As in, if they know they can't afford something, they will actually say no. The core fan base of this club is about 200-300, which is a fair amount at Wessex Premier, but a ridiculous number for Division 1. My personal opinion is we should be put in Wessex Premier btw. As for teams who will be wanting the place in the Premier, well there is a space in the Premier already, and with Hereford and Salisbury disappearing from higher up, there are still two places to be filled up there, so it sort of works out in the end. We won't be preventing a team who have earned promotion from being promoted, and therefore they can't exactly complain, cos they did not earn it in the previous playing season. 100+ to any game in Division 1 would sell out half of the grounds... In fact, in the Premier division we may still end up selling out a few grounds quite easily...

Not sure that 300 constitutes "a sell out". Although most Wessex clubs do not have the stands/terracing and seating to house 300, you can comfortably get over 300 around the perimeter of all Wessex grounds. It's more they are not really geared up for it, with lack of bar and refreshment facilities to house that kind of number. Winchester are by far the best supported team in the premier and they generally get 150-200 each home game, but only take about 20-30 away. So i see Salisbury as being similar to them. You could argue that as a "new club" Salisbury should actually start in the Local Saturday league divisions and not even as high as the Wessex league. But we know that wont happen.
Liam - What does this mean? "I can tell you that after watching him take an hour and a half training session. He won't be getting any money from this club."
